Cox's Bazar on top of list of natural wonders

Cox's Bazar sea beach yesterday scored top position in group 'g' in the ongoing competition of selecting world's seven natural wonders.

The success came following massive publicity made by Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC) at home and abroad as per directives of the government and unstinting support by the people of all strata, a BPC press release said.

BPC Chairman Shafiq Alam Mehedi congratulated all for this succcess and urged the countrymen to continue voting through Internet to keep Cox's Bazar at the top of the list.

Chittagong is the biggest seaport and second largest town in Bangladesh situated near the Bay of Bengal. It is 264 km away east of Dhaka, famous for hill areas, natural beauty and for the seashore. Chittagong is also known of the town of Aulias (Muslim saints).The Shahi Jama-e-Masjid and Qadam Mubarak Mosque are two of the most impressive buildings in the city. It is also worth visiting the Ethnological Museum in the Modern City, which has interesting displays on Bangladesh's tribal peoples.Chittagong is the country's chief port and is the main site for the establishment of heavy, medium and light industries. It is located 150 km south of Chittagong. Cox’s Bazar is also known by the name "Panowa", the literal translation of which means "yellow flower". Its other old name was "Palongkee". The modern Cox's Bazar derives its name from Captain Cox (died 1798),an army officer serving in British India.

Trip to Cox-bazar : The total distance from Dhaka to the cox-bazar is approximate 375.56km. From dhaka there are some good buses both A/C and Non-A/C go to cox's-bazar ( For more detail about journey, plz browse our Tranportation section ). You can also go by air. If you wish to go by train then first you have to go Chitagong by train and then need to change a bus to go to cox's-bazar.

Trip to Saint Martin : Anyone can go to there by A/C Non-A/C bus from Dhaka to Teknaf(10hours journey). Then Teknaf to Saint Martin by Vassal (2hours journey). There are three company run three vassal to Saint Martin. All vassal dearture at same time.
