Bangladesh

Bangladesh, also known as the People's Republic of Bangladesh, is located in the South Asia. This country shares boundary with India on all sides, leaving a small portion, which is shared with Myanmar. This country came into being during the Partition of India in 1947. It lies in the low lying plain of the Ganges- Brahmaputra river delta region. The major rivers that flow across this country are the Ganges or Padma, Brahmaputra and Meghna. Bangladesh is known all over the world because of its marsh lands, thick forested land, mangrove forest and others. Here, you can find wide array of flora and fauna. Royal Bengal Tigers are largely found in this country.


Geography of Bangladesh is diverse and varied. Located on the Tropic of Cancer, Bangladesh experiences a tropical climate. Mild winter remains during the month of October to March. March to June is marked by hot and humid summer months. June to October receives monsoonal climate marked by heavy rainfall. The Weather in Bangladesh is quite favorable and draws large number of visitor from all corners of the world.


The country of Bangladesh is divided in to six major administrative divisions- Barisal, Chittagong, Dhaka, Khulna, Sylhet and Rajshahi. The capital city of Bangladesh is Dhaka. People use Bengali as the official language. Islam is the major religion that is followed in this country. Bangladesh has a parliamentary republic form of government. The official currency that is in use in this country is the Taka.


The Culture of Bangladesh is rich and diverse. The Bengali literature upholds the rich cultural heritage of the country. Music has been one of the thing of which Bangladesh can boast of. Traditional dance forms and music have scaled heights over the years. For all those food lovers, Bangladeshi cuisine can be the great choice. This culinary delight mixes the tradition of both Indian and Middle Eastern delicacies. Rice and fish form the major palate of the people. Women prefer to wear saris while kurta pajamas are the traditional favorites among the men.


Bangladesh celebrates various festivals with great pomp and enthusiasm. Among the major sports events cricket has a special place. Other sports that are practiced in this country include volleyball, tennis, hand ball, chess, carom, kabadi, field hockey and others.


You can reach Bangladesh by air easily. Various flights arrive and depart from the airports. Railways are also an important mode of transportation, which will take you to this country. You can avail various other transports to get to the highway, ports and harbors and others. The internal transportation network system also helps in moving around the country.
